One more year

Posted on November 09, 2016 by Dave Fletcher

Chuckles owners, Bernadette & Dave Fletcher as well as Krystine Wilson and all the staff thank each and every one of you who came into our store this 2016 Halloween season.  Sometimes the traffic due to the 61st Avenue construction was not too bad and sometimes you had to be very determined to get to Chuckles as the effects of the construction was simply horrible.

Despite Calgarians efforts and our efforts to get people in our door our sales were severely impacted because of the construction.  We have done a lot of pondering the right direction for our unique store.  We heard from many customers of the excitement they have when they visit so we felt determined that we are not going to be taken out by a poorly planned and poorly executed construction project.

We are committed to the next year to shake off this horrible event and work hard to make Chuckles your destination store for any event that involves fun!  Please come visit us whenever the mood hits you – we do need your support!  Chuckles is your alternative to those warehouse like temporary stores!  Our knowledge and service will always be top notch!

ALBERTA STRONG! Support local

Posted on September 28, 2016 by Krystine Wilson

Hello, everyone!

It's that time of year again!  Time to start thinking about Halloween!

As many of you know, we are a family owned and operated business and we all here at Chuckles have such a huge passion for our store and assisting you, our valued customers.  It will only take one visit for you to see what sets us apart from all the temporary stores that pop up during the Halloween season. Our knowledgeable staff and customer service sets us apart from others, bar none. Unfortunately this year we are facing challenges as are so many Albertans. To add to the challenges there is major construction currently in process around our store making it a little difficult to reach us via vehicle and foot.

We understand that this is a bit of a pain, but we would appreciate your business in supporting local and keeping Alberta strong.

The best way to get to us for all your Halloween needs is via 58 Ave SW! If you're travelling on Macleod Trail be sure to turn east on 58 ave and then head south when you reach 1A street! We're located in Admiral Court, right on the corner of 61st and 1a Street.

If you're on the C-train or on foot head to Macleod trail and head to 60th ave and go east until you reach 1a street! Head south until you reach the corner! You'll see the orange Chuckles flags!

Thank you Calgary for your YEAR ROUND SUPPORT!

Construction for 61 Avenue S.W. Greenway Corridor

Posted on June 07, 2016 by Krystine Wilson

To our great customers!

We would like to remind everyone that there is ongoing construction occurring on 61st avenue between the Chinook LRT station and Macleod Trail! For more details, check out this City of Calgary construction update:

http://www.calgary.ca/Transportation/TI/Pages/Road-projects/61-Ave-SW-Greenway-Corridor.aspx

During this time there will at least be one lane open on 61st avenue that is opened on the east end and heads westbound.   In order to avoid this congestion we ask that you consider taking 1A Street SW and head southbound to avoid the construction completely.  When you get to the 61st avenue intersection you can just turn left into our parking lot!  This way you do not need to wait or encounter any travel delays!

Summer is almost here! We hope to see you in store to help you out with all your shopping needs!

Work - I play live tetris every day! I like to organize and display the constantly changing stock.
The variety of people and their uniqueness interests me. Helping customers to enhance their costume or event needs as well as hearing their stories and conversations.

What do you feel Chuckles brings to the community?

LAUGHTER!!!

What's you story? How did you come to Chuckles?

I come from a small remote town in Saskatchewan. I left the tiny community after high school to pursue a different and exciting life in a big city ( like many kids from Saskatchewan do ). I began working at Chuckles part time and also attended school at the University of Calgary. I eventually graduated and went overseas for some years to do other work. Since I liked working at Chuckles, when I returned I applied for my old job and here I am!

What do you love most about working at Chuckles and in the costume, joke and novelty industry?

The thing I love most about working at Chuckles is that it is a family owned business and all the co-workers get along with each other very well. Because we work well and closely with each other we're more like a little " work family " and not just a bunch of co-workers working together for a company's monetary goals. As for the joke and novelty industry - who doesn't want to have the chance to work while wearing wacky and wicked costumes, or dabbing your fingers into fake blood?

What do you feel Chuckles brings to the Community?

Chuckles brings a hub of fun and entertainment to the community. Countless amounts of customers have entered the store and have told us we're the best place to shop for things in Calgary! We have the products to spice up any party or event so we offer this unique and fun shopping experience to Calgary.

What's your favorite product/products?

My favorite product in the store is the quality fake blood and any life-like mask that fits snug to the head. I've scared co-workers multiple times with creepy masks. Electric shockers are fun also.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to read, paint military miniatures and models, film, play the odd video game and go traveling with my wife when I have spare time.

   Kelly

What's your story? How did you come to Chuckles?

I've shopped at Chuckles before and I was impressed with the selection, so when I came across an ad that they were hiring, I pretty much ran to go drop off my resume. Now I've been working here since 2012! Because of my past experiences doing zombie make-up, you can usually find me at the make-up counter!

What do you love most about working at Chuckles and in the costume, joke and novelty industry?

The people! It's so fun to see peoples' costume projects or hear about all the different events throughout Calgary. We get people from all over, and it's inspiring!

What do you feel Chuckles brings to the community?

Chuckles has not only a lot of knowledge of costumes and variety of stock but we're also enthusiastic about our work and take pride in our shop!

What's your favorite product/products?

The make-up and special FX products! I'm a huge make-up nerd and its fun doing demos!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I write a webcomic series called "Under the Dead Skies" and I'm really active in the local comic community! I also enjoy going to comic conventions and anime conventions as well! When I let myself have some down time I'm playing video games. A personal favorite right now is Diablo3 and Undertale.

    Lisa

What's your story? How did you come to Chuckles?

I left my previous high-stress job in 2014 and found Chuckles to be far more fun and in line with my interests.

What do you love most about working at Chuckles and in the costume, joke and novelty industry?

I love seeing the concepts and final products of customers costume ideas. Particularly for obscure characters.

What do you feel Chuckles brings to the community?

Costume parties are not only for Halloween. Chuckles allows people to have fun all year long.

What's your favorite product/products?

I really love the huge ram horns? I designed a whole costume for them just as an excuse to buy them.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Gamer
Costume Creator/Cosplay
Professional Loafer

   Payge

What's your story? How did you come to Chuckles?

I came into Chuckles and looked at all the products they had. When I needed a job I figured I'd drop off my resume and I think I made a great decision doing so.

What do you love most about working at Chuckles and in the costume, joke and novelty industry?

I love the people I work with and the owners are absolutely amazing. It's a fun place to work and working in the industry is an amazing experience.

What do you feel Chuckles brings to the community?

Chuckles brings fun and laughter to the community.

What's you favorite product/products?

This is a hard one but I think I like the farting mug the most! No matter how many times I play with it  I always laugh.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like dancing!  Especially Salsa dancing. I also like the outdoors, so anything that can get me outside I'm all for it.
